MULTI-FACETED TALENT
Performing & Creative Artist
In 2007, after recording with producer, Peter Amato (LeAnn Rhymes) and Grammy award winning mixer, Jess Sutcliffe, Consuelo had three consecutive top-ten hits on AOL's Musiqtones digital downloads. Her song "Numb" was featured on the hit miniseries "Beach Girls" starring Rob Lowe and Julia Ormond. The following year was spent writing and recording an album with her band, aptly named "Costin", with whom she has graced the stages of famed Hollywood nightclubs like The Whiskey, Key Club and The Roxy.
Having made a home in Los Angeles, Consuelo continues to write songs for recording and for film and television. She is currently working on new material with producer, Aaron Pearce (Lady Gaga and Katy Perry) and performing at clubs and special events, most recently singing "God Bless America" during the seventh inning stretch at Dodger Stadium. She has also parlayed her prolific songwriting talent into writing a book - a satiric memoir based on her life as a young heiress. "Vanderbroke" has piqued the interest of leading literary agents and is expected to be completed in the spring of 2010.
Entrepreneur
When it comes to achieving success in business, Consuelo employs the same creative, risk-taking and collaborative instincts she does as an artist. Most recently, she and her business partner have launched a 3D online website for artists, while Consuelo has simultaneously joined another company as part of a trio to design and develop consumer products, where royalties go to charity.
With partner, Umi McGuckin, Consuelo formed SohoMuse, www.sohomuse.com, the first social and business networking website for the global artistic community. A boutique refuge for the Creative Nomad and an exclusive 3D escape for the artistic professional and cultural world, SohoMuse is accessible from anywhere and at anytime. It is a visually inspiring place where creative minds can find like-minded kindred spirits 24/7 in a uniquely aesthetic and interactive platform. Having acquired their first round of financing, the beta version has launched with life-like simulations of London, New York, and Los Angeles.
Philanthropy
Consuelo's mother, Serena Vanderbilt Van Ingen McCallum, spent four years battling ovarian cancer and recently lost her life to the disease.
During her mother's illness and even more fervently since her death, Consuelo has dedicated all of her philanthropic work toward the fight against ovarian cancer.
She has served as a legislative ambassador for the American Cancer Society (ACS), even lobbying in Washington for increased funding in order to implement early detection programs.
"Better Days," a song Consuelo wrote about her mother, was donated to the ACS and has raised thousands of dollars for the charity.
She is an active spokesperson for the Ovarian Cancer Coalition of Greater California (OCC).
Her new song, "Find a Way", was donated to the OCC and can be downloaded from their website, www.ovariancancercalifornia.com, all proceeds going to the organization.
In the spring of 2009, she performed at the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance conference in Washington, D.C.
During September, for Ovarian Cancer Awareness month, she appeared in a public service announcement, spoke at a City Council conference and performed the national anthem at the OCC Walk/Run for Ovarian Cancer in Los Angeles for her fourth consecutive year.
She continues to make regular media appearances to speak about early detection and treatment, and to share her story in the hope of inspiring others.
Consuelo has been featured in Vogue and Prestige Magazines and has appeared on Entertainment Tonight, Plum TV, The Women's Network and more.
Consuelo is being honored in October 2009 by the Mayor of Los Angeles for her dedication and commitment to the cause.
Consuelo has also recently joined the Legacy Group LLC, www.legacywomen.com, a consumer marketing and licensing firm that specializes in raising awareness and funding for important charitable endeavors through exclusive partnerships with some of America's most revered families. An eighth generation descendant of American railroad and shipping magnate, Cornelius Vanderbilt, Consuelo has lent her family name for the purpose of licensing products and apparel, whereby her royalties will benefit her charity of choice. As an official ambassador for the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, www.ocrf.org, Consuelo has selected the organization as her designated charity and has now teamed up with a design partner to develop the Consuelo Vanderbilt Costin Collection. Working with the Legacy Group on the development of consumer products, Consuelo hopes to raise funds and awareness to educate and eventually find a cure for Ovarian Cancer.
